It’s up to you to change things…
Coronavirus. I think it’s relevant to do a blog on the pandemic and how, applying a little bit of reflection in this mess that we find ourselves in can yield REAL results.
So back in March, in the U.K. where I live, the pandemic hit. Over 8 months later we have had close to 50,000 deaths, thousands of lives have been changed forever and I think if we are all honest with ourselves, our future will very much be shaped by the decisions we now make. Good or bad.
Ignore bad news.
Im sure we’ve all seen the news stories, people flouting the rules for their own benefit. Individuals literally spitting in the faces of the dead, people who only care about themselves no matter the cost. It’s been very sad that the pandemic has shown the worst in our nature, I don’t think it could of been avoided though. In any big emergency I guess you’ll get those who selfishly only see how it affects them personally. But let’s not give those people another inch of our time or blog space! Yawn.
I may as well get to the meat of this blog; ‘We NEED to use this time wisely’. Let’s figure out what this means together.
It’s means different things to different people. To many it will mean rethinking their health choices, to others it’ll mean using this time to give up addictive substances and to some it may mean contacting relatives they’ve fallen out with. You get the idea. Use this time wisely.
The media is full of the aforementioned stories of bad news, but we need to remember that bad news sells. Years ago (in the Netherlands I believe) they tried only airing good news stories as a kind of experiment, and you know what happened? Their viewing figures dropped as no one was interested. Can you believe that!
Now I’m not saying here that they should stop telling us the FACTS, we need to know what’s going on with Covid-19 and other relevant things, I’m just saying why do we always want to hear the bad over the good? When you think about it, it’s nuts.
Good news thinking.
It’s tough to do and takes work to apply, but you CAN change the way you look at the world and adopt ‘good news thinking’. We can apply this positive mindset to our own lives and use it to implement change. There has never or probably will never be again such a profound chance to take time everyday and assess where your place is in this world (and are you happy with where your place is?)
I’ve found since taking time everyday to look at my own life, it’s become a multi-level thing. Things are connected, the good things are connected to other good things, like a computer circuit. For example, since I’ve changed how I talk and listen to my loved ones and gave them more of my time, not only have I found out new things about them, I’ve also nurtured patience in myself. I’m now not so impatient, I’ve seen that I was someone who childishly wanted things straight away, and it was EXHAUSTING me.
Good thinking will change lots.
Like I said, it’s a multi-level thing using your time wisely. I’m now far more energised as I’m not ego-dominated anymore. You can see how this can be applied to your health too, imagine by just giving yourself permission to do things with total patience, your not going to give up next time a workout gets hard or want results in a silly timeframe. You’ve basically just solved your own problems without paying a single penny to see a therapist!
It REALLY is up to you to change things forever, now is the moment, it’s literally telling you to do so right NOW.
Screw the bad news, metaphorically see the bad news in your own life as a burden to progress. ‘Assume goodwill’, what a great saying that is and I think it’s particularly relevant during this time.
So use this time wisely – wise, think of that word, to me wise means patience, wise means listening, wise means when all those around you are craving attention you remain impartial and calm.
So let’s stop having groundhog days, let’s stop expecting and start listening. Use what is happening right now, let it inspire you to sit down and patiently think; ‘What is really going on in my life and how can I be happy again.’
Think about it, when did anything good in your life up to now happen because you stamped your feet?
I rest my case.
